ABOUT THE PINETOP PERKINS FOUNDATION

Pinetop Perkins was one of the last great Mississippi bluesmen.  He began playing blues around 1927 and is widely regarded as one of the best blues pianists.  He passed away on March 21, 2011 at the age of 97.

The primary mission of The Pinetop Perkins Foundation is to provide encouragement and support for youth and young people at the beginning of their musical career; and help provide care and safety for elderly musicians at the twilight of their career.

The Foundation is a tax exempt non-profit organization.  Donations to the Foundation will go towards scholarships to enable youth to attend the MasterClass Workshops held annually in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

2016 MASTERCLASS WORKSHOP DATES ANNOUNCED - JUNE 15-17, 2016

The Pinetop Perkins Foundation will hold the seventh annual Masterclass Workshop Experience from June 15-17, 2016.  We will once again offer workshops in piano, guitar and harmonica.  The event will take place in Clarksdale, Mississippi at the Shack Up Inn and Hopson Commissary.

2015 MASTERCLASS WORKSHOP SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCED

Pinetop Perkins Foundation awards record number of youth scholarships for 2015 Master Class Workshop Experience to be held June 17-19, 2015 in Clarksdale, MS

A total of 30 youth from 17 different states have received scholarships to the Sixth Annual edition of the coveted Master Class Workshop Experience

For the sixth year, the Pinetop Perkins Foundation’s annual summer workshops will take place at the historic Hopson Plantation and Shack Up Inn in Clarksdale, Mississippi – the cradle of the blues in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. The Pinetop Perkins Workshop Experience is offered to intermediate and advanced youth and adults in guitar, harmonica and piano. The workshops encompass a total delta experience beginning with a BBQ “meet and greet,” nightly jams, and a reception at the Delta Blues Museum. The Workshop Experience concludes with a gala and group performance at Morgan Freeman and Bill Luckett’s Ground Zero night club on Friday June 19th at 7:30pm.

A record number of 50 attendees (both youth and adult) are registered for this year’s Workshop, with sessions to be taught by an award-winning group of musicians including Bob Margolin (music director), Gary Allegretto (harmonica), Jonn Del Toro Richardson (guitar), and Victor Wainwright (piano). These teaching musicians will be assisted by Kingfish Ingram, Nick Black, David Berntson, Mark Ray, Terrance Grayson, and Marcus “Mookie” Cartwright.

The Pinetop Perkins Foundation is pleased to announce that 30 youth, representing 17 different states, have received scholarships to attend this unparalleled training opportunity.

DAYTON BLUES SOCIETY RAISES FUNDS FOR YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS

The Pinetop Perkins Foundation would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to David Tellman, his team and the Dayton Blues Society for their efforts in raising funds at their Youth Showcase.  The event was held February 21, 2015 at the Phone Booth Lounge in Dayton, Ohio and raised over $1000 for youth workshop scholarships for the Master Class workshops this year.
